The Night Revealed by ~Aysel786:iconAysel786:

La Notte Rivelata

Scents of moonlit jasmines
and the seconds seem to pause
as if in suspension,
memories swirl,
feet feeling light
like being transported,
back to midsummer darkness,
to long ago
when my sandals
would walk the path of pebbled stones and dirt,
sided by white-ironed gates,
encircled by vines of gelsomino
leading the way,
tempting me to follow,
to come along
and be staggered
by the sharpened smell of salt
and breezy chills that slice across the warm air,
stumble on the sandy cliffs,
lift my eyes from the dim chaos of rocks
and witness
the path lighted before me,
across the silent waves
ending beneath the golden moon

          and there it was,
          the sad music of humanity

Author's Comments

The actual title is at the beginning of the poem, it's in Italian, so I just translated it to English when I submitted the piece, the connotations when the title is in Italian are different than when in English. This is a poem I'll submit for my creative writing course. I'm not sure if anyone will understand it but me, I was reminiscing of times when I was in Sicily. Oh, the last line is not mine, it's taken from William Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey" and that's about it. A very personal poem to me, but as always all comments are welcome...

Molto bella, mi ha fatto ricordare le mie estati in Sicilia... il gelsomino me la fa sempre tornare in mente...
Usavo passeggiare in riva al mare al calar del sole, assaporando del buon gelato al gelsomino :)

it gives me strange feelings, I can't explain them well... but it's a nice poem, nice words

It's beautiful. Gets me caught up in an ethereal sort of place, then boom- Wordsworth's line brings me back.

Thank you, I'm glad you think so, I like the effect you described it had on you...really pleased you enjoyed it.

strange feelings? Perhaps a bit of surrealism? That's how I felt when writing it, like being trapped in some odd dimension where time is different, very surreal...anyways, I'm very glad you liked it.

Ah si? Anche a me. Ho odorato il gelsomino, qui e abbondante, é tutto all'improviso, sono tornata a due estate fa, quando era in Sicilia, Marina di Noto...Sono contenta che abbiamo avuto simile memorie. Grazie per i complimenti.
